I am a popcorn snob and refuse to eat bad popcorn--microwave popcorn is never good or good for you, air-popped popcorn is tasteless and oil-popped popcorn is too unhealthy.

This popcorn maker makes popcorn that tastes amazing and that's only using one tablespoon of oil!
I've had people try my popcorn and ask how I made it or where I got it. I've also given this popcorn maker as a gift too and everyone loves it.

I haven't read any of the negative reviews so I don't know what their issues are but to me, this is the best popcorn maker I've ever had. I have it in white and really wanted to buy the red one when it came out but the darn thing just won't break! Lol

UPDATE: I have just remembered that I DID have a problem with the heating element when I first bought this. It worked a few times and then just stopped getting hot. I had purchased it from Williams-Sonoma (who no longer carry it btw) and they sent me a replacement. The new one they sent worked perfectly and is the same one I still enjoy more than 3 or 4 years later. I lowered the rating to 4 stars because of that. Just FYI.

We received this as a gift over Christmas. I've made three batches with the unit and didn't have the same plastic flavoring experienced by the other featured reviewer. My complaints/issues are more basic. The unit is overly complicated, creates popcorn batches that are too small and doesn't deliver on the gourmet popcorn flavors well.
Overly complicated: The old Waring popcorn poppers that operate on the same principle (a hotplate with a stirring rod covered with a little vegetable oil to better transmit heat to the kernels) were simple to use. Just put a cup of kernels into the unit with vegetable oil, take off the plastic cap and turn on the unit. When done, place the cap back on the unit, turn it over and use the plastic top as a bowl. This doesn't work that way due to the odd shape of the lid, and it has a funky "flavor diffuser" in the bottom (which doesn't work well). It's also a bit of a mess to clean up because of all the pieces (lid, difuser, cap, mixer, bottom) compared to the original design.
2) Too Small: You'll need to run the unit twice for two people (or one hungry one) and many more times for a family.
3) Doesn't deliver on gourmet popcorn: I suspect that the flavorings available are great and one can make the various flavors shown in the recipe guide, but the unit couldn't even adequately mix salt on the popcorn. I dumped the salt into the "flavor diffuser" as instructed and moved the switch to "mix" (which turns off the hot plate but leaves the mixing bar moving) and it really hardly mixed everything around. I ended up with a small number of inedible salty bits and a lot without any flavor.
Save your money on this unit and get one of the older design units like the Waring still sold on Amazon.com. They work very well, make a large batch and are not nearly as unnecessarily complicated like this unit.

Buy a different brand - the quality of workmanship is very cheap.
Disappointing for a Cuisinart - If I was the CEO of Cuisinart I would insist this was made better or stop selling it, it is an embarrassment to the Cuisinart name.
Purchased in Feb 2010, we make popcorn fairly often. It does work great but the construction is terrible. Within months the popping base broke we called for a replacement and the first one sent was broken, 2nd one was ok but we noticed a crack called and complained about the quality of workmanship and now the base base has broken again. I am now buying a different popper - not sure which one. In the end the popcorn popper lasted about 21 months.
